Pejantan Tulen
For a documentarian, an opportunity to make a good reality show is always welcomed. We want to make something good which is also in acceptable level in terms of commercial aspects. It all started when I was in KL scripting a film for AE, when a phone call from a close friend, Ibob, got in to my almost dead mobile phone.
'Aduh lo main jauh2 amat sih', said Bobby which means ' You are everywhere' when I told him where I was. He said he was gonna send me email on a brief of a new TV Program from GTV. Ibob works there as executive producer. Great. Thats also my position on my business cards.
I knew Ibob long time ago. I was studying downunder and he came with P Project an old skool party of party people who were bandungers, funny, but smart. And they got paid for mocking around.
In short, I was briefed to produce a reality show program. The concept sent me to hitting the roof. Fkuc! This is brilliant idea! a group of 'banci' were to put in a military camp in west java. They were to be trained and challenged as military as possible. A winner would come up on episode no.13. Bhuahahaha... I sorta make some visual links. Imagining what will happen. Coz I got a look of the military camp earlier during negotiation.
After a quick brief in Ibob office, I started to think who could handle the project as director. I really wanted to, but I knew my limits. Hell! Im not a donkey who could fall twice. I got this motherly program running under my directing belt. Thats itself an agony. I have to came up with someone who could be trustworthy, and.. documentarian.
Deni, or known as Akang, he came to join freelance web of fictionary in 2005. I asked around for an editor, then he came to my attention. Hist first edit, an episode of MTV Blackbox assured me that I found a fresh flesh. He was a graduate from documentary major - Film School IKJ, Jakarta. Hey! give him a chance! He has been editing sometime without my direct supervision. He should be good at this. Thats my thought.
